On April 3, 2025, a roundtable discussion titled “Tourism: Asia” was held at the editorial office of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moscow, with the support of the Roscongress Foundation. The event focused on emerging tourism trends across the Asia-Pacific region and the growing interest of Russian travelers in destinations across Asia, including Azerbaijan.
The roundtable brought together key players in the tourism industry of the region, along with representatives from government bodies and strategic partners. Among the guests was Yusif Vəzirov, Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation. Jalal Ismayilov, Head of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board’s Representation in Russia, participated as a speaker.
Mr. Ismayilov highlighted the reasons behind Azerbaijan’s rising popularity as a travel destination. He emphasized that modern infrastructure, a visa-free regime for Russians, and Azerbaijan's renowned hospitality make the country especially appealing.
“In Azerbaijan, we don’t think of visitors as tourists, we consider them our guests. There are no visa restrictions, all you need to do is book a ticket, board the plane, and you’re in Baku,” he said.
He also pointed out the ease of transportation as a key advantage, with around 50 direct flights weekly between Moscow and Baku, along with additional connections from other Russian cities. Direct flights to Ganja, Azerbaijan’s second-largest city, are also available.
Azerbaijan offers a diverse range of experiences, catering to those interested in cultural heritage, culinary exploration, winter sports, and business opportunities. Azerbaijan Tourism Board is focused on developing a variety of tourism routes and products, including cultural, wellness, outdoor, business, and event tourism.
