Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has launched a direct flight from Abu Dhabi to Gabala, one of Azerbaijan’s most scenic regions known for its lush nature, outdoor activities, and peaceful landscapes. Starting 19 June 2025, flights will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering international travellers a quick and affordable escape to the Caucasus Mountains. This new route supports Azerbaijan’s vision to become a year-round destination, and it is a strategic step in strengthening Gabala Airport’s role as a regional entry point, and in opening up access to the broader northwest region of Azerbaijan.
Gabala is ideal for short getaways that combine comfort, wellness, and authenticity. The region boasts lush forests, snowy peaks, and tranquil spots such as Nohur Lake. Travellers can enjoy year-round activities at Tufandag Mountain Resort, relax in natural thermal springs, or unwind at the luxury Chenot Palace Gabala Hotel.
From here, visitors can easily explore the Shamakhi-Ismayilli, Sheki-Oghuz, and Gakh-Zagatala routes, which are known for their rich culture, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. With rising interest in slow travel and nature-based experiences, the region is well positioned to meet the needs of the international travellers seeking quality time with family and friends in a peaceful setting. It offers a rare mix of adventure and serenity, with just a few hours journey. A scenic train ride connects Gabala to Baku, making it easy to add a vibrant city break to the trip.
Notably, Azerbaijan offers a visa-free regime for UAE citizens, while UAE residents with a valid residence permit (minimum six months validity) are eligible for a visa upon arrival. All these efforts support the growing number of arrivals from the UAE, which increased by 1.2 times from January to May this year compared to the same period in 2024.
