Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) is organizing a week-long roadshow across Xi'an, Shanghai, and Beijing from 22-29 May, featuring 6 tourism industry partners, including Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), to promote Azerbaijan’s tourism potential. ATB is also participating in the international tourism exhibition ITB China 2026, held from 26-28 May in Shanghai, with a national stand featuring 10 tourism industry partners, including AZAL as co-exhibitors.
Bringing together Chinese and Azerbaijani tourism industry representatives, the roadshow events and participation in ITB China 2026 served as a platform for B2B meetings and networking opportunities, enabling participants to establish new business connections and explore potential areas of cooperation, while also highlighting the country’s rapidly developing MICE tourism segment to international tourism professionals. On the sidelines of ITB China, ATB was also recognised by Trip.com, a leading online travel agency, which awarded Azerbaijan with the “Must-Visit Destination 2026”.
During the visit, ATB also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation with Tongcheng Travel, one of China’s leading online travel and lifestyle booking platforms. The partnership is expected to further strengthen Azerbaijan’s visibility in the Chinese market and support the promotion of the country as an attractive year-round destination for Chinese travelers.
Reflecting the ease of accessibility, travel to Azerbaijan has become increasingly convenient for Chinese visitors, supported by a mutual visa-free regime and direct air connections between Beijing and Urumqi and Baku, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and China Southern Airlines.
China is emerging as one of the fastest-growing tourism markets for Azerbaijan and remains among its key inbound markets. During January-April 2026, the number of visitors from China increased by nearly 9.5% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 14,303 visitors, reflecting steady market growth and increasing potential.
