A panel discussion titled "Slow Food, Low Impact: Advancing Sustainable Tourism with Local Agroproducts" took place at COP29, emphasizing the synergy between agriculture and tourism to promote sustainable development.
Moderated by Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, the panel brought together experts and stakeholders to explore the integration of local agricultural practices and traditional farming methods into sustainable tourism models with minimal environmental impact.
Sakina Asgarova, head of the Gastronomy Department at the Reserves Management Center under the State Tourism Agency, delivered an insightful presentation on Azerbaijan's successful experiences with the "Slow Food" movement, showcasing the country's commitment to preservation of biodiversity.
The discussion explored pivotal topics such as the integration of "Slow Food" principles into global tourism through academic, corporate, and community-driven approaches; the development of sustainable agro- and gastrotourism models; the contributions of local agricultural products to tourism and biodiversity; the importance of public-private partnerships in fostering sustainable tourism; and the critical role of academic research in advancing these initiatives.
As part of COP29, a dedicated presentation on "Slow Food" takes place daily from 14:00 to 15:00 at the Azerbaijan Pavilion in the Blue Zone. Visitors can experience gastrotourism products inspired by Azerbaijan's rich biodiversity, providing a tangible taste of the "Slow Food" philosophy.
“Slow Food" movement champions healthier, more sustainable nutrition by advocating for food that is clean and tasty. It preserves the culinary traditions of national and regional cuisines while supporting local communities and environment.
